New competence framework for fundraising profession to launch this month

Following a review of EFA’s Certification programme, a new competence framework for the fundraising profession will be launched at a Zoom event next Friday (18 September 2020, 14.00-15.00 CET).

First introduced in 2007, EFA’s certification scheme was established to help the fundraising sector develop professional qualifications that would be applicable at a national level, while sharing a common set of competencies. These are mapped out within a competence framework, which defines the key areas of knowledge for professional fundraisers.

EFA Certified qualifications are developed by national fundraising associations with a training partner, and submitted to EFA for certification status.

Charlotte Rydh, Chair of EFA’s Certification Committee, says:
“In recent years, the fundraising sector has seen an intense period of change, with fundraising channels, societal needs, consumer trends, digital platforms, regulation and best practice all evolving rapidly. We’re delighted to have redeveloped EFA’s competence framework to reflect the reality of the skills and competencies needed for fundraising at a professional level in today’s world.”

The launch event will present further information about EFA’s Certification scheme and the new competence framework, along with research from Ian MacQuillin, founder and director of Rogare – the international fundraising think tank – into the typical entry routes into fundraising.

To date, EFA Certified qualifications have been developed and accredited in 11 countries and completed by 5,500 fundraisers.

Hosted by Give Sweden (Giva Sverige), the Zoom event has been developed for national fundraising associations, educational partners, trainers, academics, fundraising leaders and other interested parties.
